Friday Frivolity, the MEGA edition

I've been saving up quizzes and funnies and stuff for weeks (mostly because I forget to post them on Friday!), and since I'll be out of town for the next couple of weeks, I thought this would be a good time to post them all for you!

Enjoy!

First up, the quizzes-

Your Score: Baruch Spinoza

You scored 55 realism, 61 rationalism, 22 materialism, and 27 atomism!

Your philosopher is Benedictus de Spinoza (November 24, 1632 - February 21, 1677), named Baruch Spinoza by his synagogue elders. Along with Ren Descartes and Gottfried Leibniz, he was one of the great rationalists of 17th-century philosophy. He is considered the founder of modern Biblical criticism. His magnum opus was the Ethics. You believe that what we think of as "God" and "Nature" are two names for the same reality, namely the single substance that underlies the universe and of which all lesser "entities" are actually modes or modifications. There is, in each rock, tree, animal and human, a bit of the same essence; deep down we are all the same. Your compassion for others is therefore as deep as your compassion for yourself, and in all things you see the same spirituality you see when you look in the mirror.

---yeah, okay....not so much. Sounds too new agey and pantheistic for me. But, even these silly quizzes can get it wrong (like polls, it's all in how you ask the questions!)

Your Score: Mystic Theurge

48% Combativeness, 36% Sneakiness, 70% Intellect, 77% Spirituality

Brilliant and spiritual! You are a Mystic Theurge!
Score! You have a prestige class. A prestige class can only be taken after you've fulfilled certain requirements. This may mean that you're an exceptionally talented person, but it probably doesn't.
The Mystic Theurge is a combination of a cleric and a mage. They can cast both arcane and divine spells, and are good at both, making them pretty terrifying on the battlefield. They have more raw spellpower than just about any other class.
You're both intelligent and faithful, but not violent or deceitful. I guess that makes you a pretty good person.

-----Now this one is me! ;) Cleric mages were always my favorite class in 2nd Editon D&D (you know, way back in the dark ages!).

Your Score: Commanding Officer

You scored 100

A true fan. You probably have seen every episode more times than you can count and still watch it in syndication or own it on vhs or dvd. Not much of anything slips by you. You are the boss with the brass.

-----Yep, at this point, I'd be surprised if I haven't seen every episode of MASH at least 3 times. My folks still watch it on Hallmark (?) Channel just about every night!

Ok, so maybe I will go see it

I just finished reading a review of Evan Almighty on Catholic Exchange-
Conversing Over Comedy: The Invitation of Evan Almighty

In it he talks about both the positive Christian messages it presents about God, and how it gets a couple of points of theology wrong. The kicker is though, that Hollywood so seldom even tries to do movies with positive Christian messages about prayer and God that even when it gets a few things wrong it's still an opportunity to open conversation with our friends and neighbors. Not knowing the entirety of the plot, I was initially turned off by the whole idea of a second ark and flood, since God clearly told Noah that he would never do that again. But, that is a point I could bring up when talking about the film, how God DOES keep his promises.

So, have any of you seen the film? What do you think of it?

This is kind of neat

Beauty for the Brave

It's a small, tangible sacrifice we can give to help those in need. We do it all the time for the hungry, give up going out to eat one time a month and donate that amount to a local food bank, why not forgo a 'beauty' purchase and send the money to help our wounded troops and their families?

And men? You're not off the hook here. I'm sure you all can find something to give up temporarily to donate as well. Aftershave, hair gel, or how about an issue of your favorite magazine? (okay, a magazine doesn't fit the theme of giving up beauty...unless of course it's one that has beautiful women in it!)

The Immigration BIll

Captain's Quarters puts to words what I've been thinking for the last couple of days. I don't know that I have as much of a problem with the ideas in the immigration bill as I do with how it's being shoved through Congress.

All I can think of is how so many on the Left accused the Republican led Congress of doing the same thing with the PATRIOT ACT. Now, I'd have to go back and look up and see if it was handled similarly or not, but that's sure the complaint I get about it from the Lefties in my life; that it was done in the dark of night, behind closed doors, with no time for debate or amendments.

Accurate or not, I wonder where THEY all are now? I'm not hearing the same kind of uproar about this 1000+ page bit of legislation. But, maybe I'm just not listening to the right (heh...or Left) sources on it.

Freedom Walk

The national Freedom Walk is on Sunday September 9 this year.

I'm writing about it mostly so I remember to look into it after Aaryk's R&R next month.

Supporting the troops' families

Now here's a way to show your support AND actually help the troops!

I hear people fuss all the time about folks who put the yellow ribbon magnets on their cars and that's the extent of their 'support' for the troops. Well, Colorado has come up with a way to show your support on your car AND help the families of soldiers here at home.

American Military Family is a Colorado based support network for our servicemen and their families. I wish more states had programs like this! (I'll have to see if AZ and NC have anything like this now!)
